FAQ

What is DC++? - DC++ is program that allows people to share files. To connect to the MST3K Hub, you must download the correct software. DC++ is an open source program that will let you connect to the hub and download files from other users connected to the hub. The DC++ client program is available in the downloads section

How do I configure DC++? - There are many guides on the internet to help you set up DC++. A good one is available here. Information about everything you need to know is listed there, including how to set up active mode.

What is the address of the hub? - The address for the hub is: mst3k-crowtrobot.no-ip.org:8080

Who are the moderators in the hub? - There are several different operators you will see in the hub. HAL9000 and TheDregulator are the names of the moderators. HAL9000 is the hub owner. Any questions, comments, etc. can be directed to the operators, or to HAL9000 via the the contact link on this page.

I don't get any search results when I search for a file. Why? - This is because you are not in active mode and you are behind a firewall/router. You need to put DC++ in active mode and configure your firewall/router to allow the ports DC++ uses to pass through. Also, a person in passive mode cannot get the file list of another person that is also in passive mode. See the guide here to help you set up active mode.

What episodes of MST3K are available? - Every episode is available except for the first 4 that were made. No known copies of those episodes exist, known as K00 through K03. There is a DVD rip of MST3K: The Movie available, as well as a compressed AVI version.

Is there any limit to how many episodes I can download? - No, there is no set limit for how many episodes you can download. Download just 1 or you can download every episode available.

Are there other things available to download on the hub? - Yes, other things are available. The users of the hub may share just about anything, so the content of the hub is determined by the users currently connected. All of the orignal The Twilight Zone episodes are shared, in addition to MST3K, plus any other content provided by other hub users.

What is an MD5 sum? - You may have noticed that most of the episodes have a text file associated with them, with an MD5 sum. An MD5 sum is a way of making sure that the file you downloaded is exactly (to a very high degree of certainty) the same as the source file. This is done to keep the integrety of the files the same, and prevent errors from occuring as files get transfered many times. You need software to calculate the MD5 sum of a file, which you can easily find by a simple Google search (there is a simple MD5 sum calculator in the Downloads section of this site). If the MD5 sum of the file you have does not match the MD5 in the associated text file, delete the file you have and re-download the episode.

Is this type of file sharing illegal? - The sharing of Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes has gone on for quite a while without any problems as far as copyright lawsuits (for example, DAP Central). The DC++ software does allow users to share any files they want, and the unauthorized sharing of copyrighted files is illegal. This hub is solely intended for the sharing of MST3K episodes that are not currently being persued for copyrights. Sharing other, non-MST3K files is not recommended and could, although unlikely, result in action by RIAA/MPAA etc. Share non-MST3K files at your own risk, as the hub owner is NOT responsible for what users share.
